The Secret Life of Dogs
What We Really Do When You're Not Home
Woof there! Boomer here, ready to blow the lid off the mystery of what REALLY happens when our hoomans leave the house. Consider this an exclusive behind-the-scenes exposé from the canine world!
The Moment They Leave
First things first - we dogs have a complex routine that begins the second that door closes. It's part surveillance, part party, part nap festival. And absolutely NO, we're not just sleeping the whole time (though that's definitely part of the plan).
The First Hour: Reconnaissance
- Check all the windows
- Ensure no squirrels have invaded
- Verify the treat cupboard location
- Confirm no unexpected noises
- Rearrange cushions to perfect napping configuration
Strategic Napping Locations
I have a carefully curated selection of napping spots:
- The sunny patch on the carpet
- The hooman's side of the bed (don't tell!)
- That one chair they always say is "off-limits"
- By the radiator (maximum warmth)
- Anywhere with a view of the front door
The Forbidden Zones
Every dog knows about those magical places normally off-limits:
- The sock drawer
- Kitchen counters
- That cushion with the fancy embroidery
- Anywhere with interesting smells
What We ACTUALLY Do
Contrary to popular belief, we're not just lazy. We:
- Guard the house from potential threats (aka postie, delivery drivers)
- Reorganise cushions for optimal comfort
- Practice our "I was definitely here the whole time" look
- Contemplate the meaning of life (and treats)
- Miss our hoomans (most importantly!)
The Welcome Home Routine
When they return, we have a strict protocol:
- Act SUPER excited
- Look like we've been waiting ALL DAY
- Demonstrate we've been good
- Subtly hide any evidence of mild mischief
- Receive mandatory welcome home cuddles and treats

P.S. No cushions were harmed in the making of this blog. (Mostly.)
P.P.S. To my hooman friends - yes, we know exactly what time you'll be home. We've been counting the minutes!
P.P.P.S. Some mysteries are best left unexplained. Like how that slipper ended up in the garden. Pure coincidence, I assure you.
