Dog Kennels or Home Boarding — Which Is Better for Your Dog?
Some dogs love a familiar kennel routine. Others feel more at home with the everyday bustle of a household. The best choice starts with your dog, quirks and all.

Looking for dog kennels in Coventry?
You want somewhere your dog can settle while you are away. Somewhere you feel comfortable leaving them. That might be a kennel, or it might be home boarding like ours in Holbrooks, Coventry.
We are Joolz and Ian, the hoomans behind Pawsies. We offer home-based dog boarding in North Coventry. Here is how to think through the choice, before anyone packs a favourite blanket.
Joolz, Ian and our much-loved, dog Boomer. He helped make Pawsies what it is. His warmth still shapes how we welcome every dog.
A dedicated setting
When kennels could be the better fit
A well-run kennel can suit a dog who already knows the setting and settles happily into its routine. Some dogs benefit from their own separate space rather than sharing a household with unfamiliar dogs.
If your dog needs separation or particular care, ask the individual provider what they can accommodate. Kennels vary in layout, noise levels and time spent with people. A visit tells you much more than the word “kennels” alone.
A place in a household
When home boarding could feel right
Home boarding may suit a dog who enjoys human company and familiar household sounds. Think everyday routines, garden pottering and finding a comfy spot for a snooze.
Sharing a home needs to work for everyone. A dog who finds other dogs or a new household overwhelming may need a different arrangement. Home boarding is not automatically the answer for every nervous dog.
What does a Pawsies stay look like?
Your dog stays in our home, with Joolz and Ian. Walks, rest and garden time are part of the day, with photo updates for the hoomans. We want to understand their routine and the little things that help them settle. Serious blanket preferences very much count.
We are licensed home boarders. You can see our home and garden, talk through your dog's needs and ask how introductions and care would work. Have a look at our boarding prices too, so you know what to expect.
A few good questions, wherever you visit
Where will my dog sleep and rest?
How much company will they have, and will they mix with other dogs?
How will you handle their food, medication or particular worries?
What happens if they struggle to settle?
The answers matter more than picking a side in “kennels versus home boarding”. Your dog gets the deciding vote. We just help with the paperwork.
Come and have a sniff around
A free Meet & Greet lets you and your dog meet us and explore Pawsies before booking a stay. We allow two hours, so there is time for gentle introductions and all your questions.
It is a chance for all of us to see whether this feels like a good fit. Booking a visit does not commit you to boarding, and a Meet & Greet slot does not reserve your holiday dates. If you have dates in mind, see our boarding availability.
