Who was Boomer?

The little bear behind Pawsies

If you've spent any time reading our blog, you'll probably have noticed that most of the articles have been written by a rather opinionated dog called Boomer.

He was our Head of Hounds, Chief Barketing Officer, official bed tester, biscuit inspector and, according to him, the most important member of the Pawsies team.

But who actually was Boomer?

Well, for a start, he was a real dog. A gorgeous little bear who shared our home, our lives and, somewhat reluctantly on occasion, his toys and beds with the many dogs who came to stay at Pawsies.

He was also our dog. Our companion, our friend and a very much loved member of our family.

The original Head of Hounds

Before Pawsies became the business it is today, there was Boomer.

When we started welcoming other dogs into our home, Boomer was already there to show them the ropes. He shaped tghe early days of Pawsies and helped with every decision along the way.

He welcomed newcomers, supervised their exploration of the garden and made sure everyone understood the important things in life. Where to find the water, which beds were the most comfortable and, most importantly, when the biscuits were being handed out.

As the years went by, he became an old hand at meeting new dogs. Some were confident and playful, others a little nervous or unsure. Boomer helped us understand that every dog is different and that feeling safe and comfortable matters just as much as having fun.

In many ways, he taught us how to run Pawsies.

A dog with a career

Of course, Boomer wasn't content with simply being a family dog.

He had a career to pursue.

He became the star of our website, the author of our blog and the sender of countless emails to our customers.

He offered advice on everything from choosing the right dog boarding arrangements to coping with fireworks, surviving winter and negotiating the correct number of blankets on the sofa.

He even wrote about his holidays with Aunty Lee, including one particularly demanding assignment mentoring a young puppy called Fred.

And while we might have helped him a little with the typing, the character behind those stories was very real.

The humour, the love of comfort, the fascination with food and the quiet authority of an old dog who had seen it all. That was Boomer.

Saying goodbye

In July 2026, after a wonderfully long life, Boomer became too tired to carry on.

With one last kiss for Ian and one final cuddle with Joolz, our gorgeous little bear went peacefully to sleep.

We knew the day would eventually come, but that didn't make saying goodbye any easier.

For so many years, Boomer had simply been there. Wandering around the house, sleeping on the sofa, keeping an eye on the visiting dogs and generally making sure his hoomans knew who was in charge.

Suddenly, his favourite places were empty.

Boomer's legacy

Pawsies carries on.

There are still dogs arriving for holidays, making new friends, exploring the garden and curling up on the sofa.

And although Boomer isn't here to welcome them any more, everything he taught us remains part of how we care for them.

He helped make Pawsies a place where dogs aren't simply boarded. They're welcomed into a home, treated as individuals and loved as part of the family.

That's the legacy of our very first Head of Hounds.

We'll be leaving his blog here for everyone to enjoy. His adventures, his advice and his occasionally questionable opinions deserve to live on.

But this will be the final article in Boomer's Blog.

So, who was Boomer?

He was a very special little dog who brought happiness to our lives, welcomed countless four-legged friends into his home and somehow managed to become the voice of a business.

But, most of all, he was our little bear.

Thank you, Boomer. For everything.

With love,

Joolz & Ian 🐾
